In modern society, the Internet has progressively substituted paper books as a repository of knowledge. Although some people frown upon this trend due to its drawbacks, it looks to me that the benefits are far outweighing.

The major advantage of this development is that the unlimited storage capacity of the Internet enables users to access any information and knowledge they desire. Compared with spending enormous time flipping through a wide range of books, people can find the reference they need online as simply as a few clicks on search tools where the expertise of all disciplines is made available to the public for free. Moreover, the wealth of knowledge stored virtually can be accessed at any time and from any location, making everyone obtain it without geographical constraints merely with Internet-connected digital devices. On the other hand, contents stored online are much easier to be shared with others, allowing for higher efficiency in communication. To be specific, it would be far more time consuming to deliver an important paper book to others who live far away compared with sending them a link through social medial platform when we come cross something fascinating.

While others may oppose such trend due to the unfavourable quality of knowledge and information available on websites. This is true to some extent because the dismissal of printing, binding and distribution of paperbacks has given rise to false information and rampant pirating owing to the lowered gate for publishing ideas in the sophisticated virtual world. However, this concern can be addressed by implementing comprehensive regulations and stricter supervision in terms of knowledge storage online. By standardizing the whole process ranging from the production to the publishing of knowledge, each step tends to be reviewed by relevant authorities, so that only reliable and accurate contents can be available on websites.

In conclusion, I firmly believe that new media of knowledge provides us significant convenience as long as the government and the public are mindful of potential risks of the spreading of illegal and harmful contents online and take effective measures to crack down on any negative behaviours.
